During his 20-year career in the valiant fire brigade, Eduardo gradually became aware of Chile's severe lack of trained wilderness rescue experts. As a former military man, he possessed a unique sense of responsibility and duty to his nation. Driven by this, he resolved to further immerse himself in the professional realm of wilderness rescue, ultimately becoming the head of the renowned wilderness rescue group FOX AUSTRAL based in Punta Arenas.
"Being able to save lives with my own hands was a pivotal turning point that completely altered my life's trajectory," Eduardo confided. "The immense sense of accomplishment I feel after fulfilling my duties is like a powerful force that profoundly impacts my daily conduct, propelling me ever forward."
Whether leading expeditions or encountering ill-equipped travelers in peril, Eduardo unfailingly stepped up, employing his expertise to ensure their safe passage. As a highly trained rescue specialist, his thirst for knowledge never waned, adhering to the most cutting-edge and stringent domestic and international rescue standards to maintain his skills at their peak.
Resolute in Lifesaving
It was Eduardo's unwavering pursuit of lifesaving that enabled him to overcome obstacle after obstacle, continually reinventing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the field. Recounting one particular memory, he shared, "Two years ago, I participated in an arduous 45-day search and rescue operation where extreme conditions like blizzards and bitter cold enveloped us day and night. Although we ultimately only recovered a body, at least we could provide some solace to the grieving family, ensuring our efforts were not in vain."
This harrowing experience struck Eduardo like a heavy hammer, awakening him to the realization that only through relentless study and self-improvement could he stay the course on this lifesaving path, remaining true to his inner ideals. "My dream is to continue absorbing knowledge, honing my rescue skills with the limited resources at my disposal, so that I can reach out and assist more people in dire need with greater professionalism and efficiency."
The Everest of Challenges
On this unforgettable journey to the Himalayas, Eduardo came face-to-face with the formidable reality of conducting rescues in such extreme high-altitude environments. He recounted the situation vividly:
"One of my team members suffered severe high-altitude pulmonary edema and had to be airlifted urgently from the local village to a lower elevation for treatment. Another member also developed a heart condition due to the extreme altitude. Relying on my professional knowledge and rescue skills, I did everything in my power to assist these endangered companions."
As the leader of the entire mountaineering team, Eduardo's primary responsibility was ensuring the safety of all members. However, as a highly trained and experienced rescue expert, he unhesitatingly stepped forward when faced with life-threatening situations, employing every ounce of his strength to provide aid. Harboring profound reverence for every life, he did not hesitate to give his all in rescuing those in need.
This arduous trial not only reaffirmed the hardships and dangers of high-altitude rescue operations but also strengthened his steadfast pursuit and determination for this vocation.
The Tenacious

"I am striving tirelessly to make this dream a reality, reaching out far and wide to secure the necessary funding. For the sake of his profession, Eduardo often had to temporarily part from his family, rushing to and fro across his homeland. Yet, he harbored boundless gratitude, "Without my family's selfless support and broad understanding, I would never have achieved what I have today."
